The only thing you'd use your secondary profession for is Arcane Echo, which is overrated now, since we have access to dual Recharge mods.

Therefore, this is the best build for PvE, IMO:

16 Curses
13 SR

Desecrate Enchantments
Defile Enchantments (switch with Lightbringer's Gaze/Cap Sig when necessary)
Enfeebling Blood
Mark of Pain
Barbs
Spiteful Spirit (e)
Reckless Haste
Res Signet/Sunspear Res Signet

Bring along 2 physical damage Heroes and an MM, and PvE will be very easy.

Does this work well with Heroes? I am planning to use it on Master of Whispers but I'm worried about his energy management. I also like to use him with Olias as a MM.

A Necromancer/Mesmer with Archane Echo to double Spiteful Spirit would be much more effective than a Monk secondary you know...

Nope. A major component of a good SS is target selection. You need to use Reckless Haste and Enfeebling Blood on the attackers, not the casters. The AI can't distinguish that.

Arcane Echo is horrible for SS builds now, since there are so many more Curse skills than there were back in Prophecies, and we have access to dual recharge mods. A Defile Enchantments will deal much more damage than another SS. Signet of Lost Souls will allow for more efficiency than another SS. Plus, enemies die too fast for another SS to have any effect. I'm that good.

Reckless Haste/Shadow of Fear/Suffering + FoC
Additionally you might go for a snare water spell.
Ice Spikes for instance

Also regarding those dual recharge mods the chance that you got a 5 sec recharge of FoC is not impossible.

QFT, I've never had to drop a 2nd SS nowadays. Monster mobs, especially Heket, love to group with SS on.

Archane echo and AtB were always wasted skill slots on a SS necro. Sorry it took everyone so long to figure that out
